My Soldier
Last night, I dreamt of my soldier,
So far away from home,
Miss him, want him, love him,
As I do this time alone,
I flew across the seas,
And found myself, as I am,
In his desert battle scene,
'til I saw him on the field,
His body weary, his heart aching,
His longing deep, revealed,
Acrid smoke was thick and swirling,
We stood amidst the chaos,
With death and bullets whirling,
Meeting eyes across the field,
And joined our hearts together,
And remembered all we feel,
No sight of falling bombs,
The sounds of all unholy,
Had eroded into calm,
As he stumbled on one leg,
I closed the space between us,
And came closer to his aid,
The rest of him was wrought,
of dirt, and blood, and memories,
of all of those he lost,
I wrapped him in my arms,
And gently kneeled on foreign earth,
To protect him from all harm,
Spooning warmly on the ground,
Our bodies tight together,
His back, my chest, our love,
And smelled his smell so close,
I kissed his neck and took my hand,
His hair, I gently stroked,
I peered to see a grin,
He faded gently off to sleep,
At last, found peace within,
And serenity we found,
Together after all this time,
Coiled there upon the ground,
As I pulled him in much closer,
The faith and bond, unspoken love,
While dreaming of my soldier.
